I had to get a little bit more creative this weekend when i did my pictures because we were in Carmel. So i ended up not placing an object(because i did not have one) but instead took a picture of this tree from our deck at two different times. I think that it actually turned out better because the light and color could not be any more different. The first picture that we took was at eleven am and it was a beautiful morning in Carmel. The sun was really shining, which brought out all the color in the tree. The sky was clear and the hue and saturation were perfect with the blue sky and dark green leaves. The colors of the tree and background were very intense. But as most people who have lived on the coast know the weather is something that constantly changes, and by seven o clock the fog had run its course and the tree took on a whole new look. By this time the tree was dark and the value of color was very dull. Especially with the grey background. There was no more sunlight shining on the tree so it almost looks black in the second picture. The hue and saturation are very dark and its obviously almost a complete shade. I thought both of these pictures represented what we learned in this chapter and i actually favor the dark one because its a more realistic image of the central California coast and to me has more of a feel to it. Of course in an artistic way it probably
isnt but
im not an artist anyways.

I can tell that you like tree they make a very good subject for any artist. Good job on your blog.
The tree silhouetted against the clouds is nicely composed and very dramatic. The outstretched branches of the tree are very welcoming like outstretched arms. The clouds in the background have a nice visual texture that suggests movement. Nice catch.
It's absolutely beautiful. At first, I knew there was something different about the tree in your pictures- I could swear that it looked like they belonged in the Monterey area. I love how different the two photos are, with just a little change in time and weather. Great job!
wow. beautiful photos. there is something so sensual and peaceful about the silhoutte of a tree. i like how the tree appears black in the second photo. it's almost a matter of positive and negative space in the second photo. and you can easily see that the clouds roll in a create a completely different mood to the piece. nice work.
These are great pictures of a tree. I like the way in one picture it looks clear outside and in the other it looks as if the clouds are rolling in.
Beautiful pictures, Mike! I wish we were there with you...grin.
You should also be noticing the reduction in contrast between the two images. As the sun is covered by the clouds in image two and also closer to the horizon, the overall saturation of the colors is greatly reduced.
